Evelyn Chang made her London debut in 2004 at the South Bank Centre, the success and exciting reviews brought her a string of interesting and challenging projects working with outstanding international artists and composers. Her 2007 recording with violist Maxim Rysanov released by Avie Records received numerous awards and was picked as editor’s choice by Gramophone, BBC Music, and Musik magazines. In May 2009, Chang’s debut solo album Poets from the East has been warmly received by the press and public followed by a series of launch recitals in Asia.

Originally from Taiwan, Chang moved to London at the age of 13 and began to explore her long musical journey in the west. During her time at the Purcell School of Music, she regularly gave concerts throughout Europe and the UK under the supervision of Valéria Szervánszky, Graham Fitch, and Andrej Esterházy. She was invited to perform at Buckingham Palace at the age of 17. Chang later joined the Royal College of Music studying under professors Irina Zaritskaya and Andrew Ball, supported by the Russell Gandler Award and St. Martyn’s scholarship.

In this recital, Chang will perform selected works by Chopin and Schumann to celebrate the bicentenary of their birth.

“…she shows very different qualities; sparkling passagework and elegant lyrical expression… equally convincing with the impressionistic sonorities…” Gramophone (2007)

“ … thundering contribution of pianist Evelyn Chang… getting a sound worthy of Liszt” Fanfare Magazine (2007)
